About the project
UX strategy, digital design and brand identity
Visit Svalbard is the official tourism and destination-management organisation for Svalbard, Norway. Its mission is to help people discover, plan and experience the Arctic, with Longyearbyen as the main gateway to the archipelago.
The existing website was not fully meeting the needs of its users. Visitors struggled to navigate the site and find essential information ahead of their trip, from practical travel advice and local experiences to important safety guidelines and regulations. At the same time, the website needed to serve as a useful resource for both visitors and residents, bringing local experiences, services and booking opportunities together in one accessible destination.

The challenge was to create a digital experience that balanced inspiration with practical utility. Users needed to be able to explore what Svalbard has to offer while also finding the information they need to make informed decisions, prepare for their stay and navigate the unique conditions of life in the Arctic.
I contributed to the project from the initial pitch, helping shape the presentation and design rationale that secured the client, through to the development of the new identity and digital experience. Later in the process, I worked as a UX and design consultant, advising on the structure, usability and visual execution of several key pages on the website.
My focus was on making complex information easier to navigate, establishing clearer content hierarchies and ensuring that the design supported users' needs at different stages of their journey. The goal was to create a more intuitive and coherent digital experience that makes it easier to discover Svalbard, find essential information and access relevant local services.
